James Arthur Robinson, also known as J. A. Robinson (b. June 9, 1932, Blackwell, Oklahoma), is a university president emeritus and political scientist. He received a B.A. from George Washington University in 1954, a M.A. from the University of Oklahoma in 1955, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1957. Robinson taught political science at Northwestern University from 1958 to 1964. He was a professor of political science at Ohio State University from 1964 to 1971, where he was also director of the Mershon Center from 1967 to 1970. Robinson was president and professor of political science at Macalester College from 1971 to 1974, and the second president of the University of West Florida from 1974 to 1988.
