Biographical references:
1883 wurde Baker Professor für Anatomie an der Georgetown University, und 1888 war er Mitbegründer der National Geographic Society. Sekretär der Washington Academy of scineces. 1889 wurde er zum stellvertretenden Direktor des National Zoo ernannt und 1893 zum offiziellen Direktor des Zoos. Er ging 1916 in den Ruhestand.
